Special Saturday Ozarks at Large Spotlights Touring Musicians

We're doing things a little differently during our fall on-air fundraiser. That means you get a special Saturday edition of Ozarks at Large. Tune in this Saturday, Oct. 26, from noon to 1 p.m. for a very musical edition of your daily news magazine focused on local news, culture and information.

We'll be featuring visiting musicians who've all stopped in to perform a set at the Firmin-Garner Performance studio including the Oxford, Miss., group Water Liars, who just played in Fayetteville last night, returning Nov. 15 for a show at the Lightbulb Club on Block Street in Fayetteville. Not only do Water Liars have a penchant for deep lyricism paired with perfect pop hooks, that sometimes shift into blissful distortion, they also have a soft spot for Southern literature. After all they're named after a Barry Hannah short story. When they stopped in to play a few songs, we also explored their love of the Arkansas poet Frank Stanford, which you can listen to here.

Another musician featured in this Ozarks at Large special is Michael Johnathon, who brings his own WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour, a celebration of grassroots and Americana music (broadcasted on KUAF Saturday afternoons at 2 p.m.) to Eureka Springs for a special two-hour taping of his worldwide multi-media celebration of roots music and culture, at the AUD begining at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. The two-hour special will bring together national recording artists Michael Martin Murphy, Leroy Troy and the Tennessee Mafia Jug Band, with locals including Mountain Sprout. We reported on the show's stop in Eureka Springs on today'sOzarks. If you missed the noon edition you can catch it tonight in the 7 p.m. encore broadcast.

Other musicians featured on this special Saturday Ozarks at Large include Jayme Stone, Lizzy Lehman, and Joseph Israel, who've all stopped in for an in-studio this past year.
