Deconstructing Fort Chaffee’s Cuban Refugee History
In 1980, more than 125,000 Cubans fleeing Fidel Castro's communist regime were boatlifted to America and processed at military compounds including Fort Chaffee in Arkansas. Among the population were gay Cubans and prisoners that Castro had purged from his prisons. The Cubans were widely portrayed by the press as criminal—a stigma that's persisted. But as Jacqueline Froelich reports, historians are working to clarify the record.

Private Option Dominates First Week of Session

Ahead on this edition of Ozarks, Spring is officially here, and warmer weather will soon bring with it insects like mayflies and damsel flies out and about. But before those bugs mature, they spend their young lives as nymphs in local waterways. We visit a local creek to see what is swimming and crawling beneath the surface. On October 18th The Buffalo River Back Country Horsemen set out on the Great River Ride, from Ponca to Buffalo City, to commemorate the 40th anniversary the of the Back Country Horsemen of America-- dedicated to the preservation of horse trails on public land. Jacqueline Froelich visits with the horsemen—and women, as they depart on their two week journey—which ends on Halloween.
