Deconstructing Fort Chaffee’s Cuban Refugee History
In 1980, more than 125,000 Cubans fleeing Fidel Castro's communist regime were boatlifted to America and processed at military compounds including Fort Chaffee in Arkansas. Among the population were gay Cubans and prisoners that Castro had purged from his prisons. The Cubans were widely portrayed by the press as criminal—a stigma that's persisted. But as Jacqueline Froelich reports, historians are working to clarify the record.

Ahead on this edition of Ozarks, Spring is officially here, and warmer weather will soon bring with it insects like mayflies and damsel flies out and about. But before those bugs mature, they spend their young lives as nymphs in local waterways. We visit a local creek to see what is swimming and crawling beneath the surface. Plus, a conversation with another one of this year's gubernatorial candidates, Mike Ross. The Democrat has aspirations that stretch beyond this November. The director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission gives a few details on an economic development project hinted at by Governor Mike Beebe, though the project still largely remains a mystery. Members of the state's legislative joint budget committee wants to hold off on giving cost of living raises to members of the state's judicial system. And, an anti-abortion group wants state lawmakers to make it more difficult to purchase the "Morning After Pill."
