In response to an increasing homeless population, 7 Hills Homeless Center is increasing its education services by 66% and needs folding chairs for the classroom.A legislative Joint Performance Review Committee Meeting held yesterday in Little Rock addressed how a $4 million deficit could occur in the University of Arkansas' Advancement Division. Arkansas Lieutenant Governor Mark Darr yesterday was adamant that he would not resign in the face of a number of ethics violations, though some state legislators say that impeachment proceedings are likely to occur. The Sebastian County Quorum Court has laid preliminary plans for expanding the county's Emergency Medical Service headquarters in Greenwood. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics posts November jobless numbers for Northwest Arkansas and the Fort Smith metro areas. And, the U of A Women's Basketball Team makes it onto a Top-25 list.
Ahead on Ozarks, the New Year brings an increased need for nurse practitioners in Arkansas. And 100 CEOs have given their opinions about what they think 2014 may have in store for businesses in Arkansas. University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Northwest Arkansas campus announced a $1.5 million gift from Willard and Pat Walker Charitable Foundation today. The gift will fund the construction of a clinical skills education center. The center’s scheduled to open by mid next year.

The Arkansas Department of Children and Families Services now provides “subsidized guardianships” for certain foster children placed within their family of origin. We hear from the director as well as Jennifer Ferguson with Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families.
The Avid Readers Book Club met at 1 p.m. this afternoon at the Springdale Public Library. Tomorrow, “Sandwiched In” with John Cross about Eureka Springs' history will take place at Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale. Becca Bacon Martin from Northwest Arkansas Newspapers has the details.
The Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission is commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War in Arkansas. The Civil War Sesquicentennial will be celebrated between 2011 and 2015.
The Grammy winning percussionist will be in northwest Arkansas again for a performance at Walton Arts Center. Kyle Kellams spoke with him on the phone about his music, and life on the road.
