For more than a hundred years, county extension agents have worked within communities teaching the art and science of canning. Jacqueline Froelich --who has preserved blueberries, applesauce and okra pickles--takes us to the Washington County fair to meet extension agent Linda Chappell.The first phase of Fayetteville High School recently received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver accreditation. Nordex USA plans to pay $2.5 million back to the state after failing to meet employment expectations set when the company accepted state development money. And, today is the day of the special run-off election to fill a vacancy on the Springdale City Council.

Ahead on this edition of Ozarks at Large, the types of food establishments--restaurants, convenience stores, grocers, fast food businesses--that surround a school have an impact on childhood obesity. We speak to two U of A System Division of Agriculture researchers who make that claim. Plus, Habitat for Humanity Washington County completes its 50th home, Roby Brock has his Talk Business Arkansas update, Becca Martin Brown tells us What's Up, and more.
The ground beneath your home, farm or forest is known as a mineral estate and in many cases someone else owns it. And those surface landholders on lucrative ground, such as the Fayetteville Shale, may be at risk. We hear from a mineral estates expert, affected landholder and state political activist seeking to pass a landholders bill of rights.
Students will be charged 25 percent more this year for health insurance compared to last year. Mary Alice Serafini, the director of the Pat Walker Health Center, and Pam Delaney, the student health insurance representative, explained these changes.

Festival organizer Steven Gates and trumpeter Richard Rulli recently spoke to Kyle Kellams about the fifth concert in the KUAF/Fulbright Summer Chamber Music Festival. The performance is scheduled for 7:30 Thursday night inside the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall on the University of Arkansas campus. The concert is free and open to the public.
