John Homans is the executive editor of New York Magazine, and he previously worked at Esquire, Details, Harper's and The New York Observer. He says the last thing he would have thought he would've written about for his first full-length nonfiction book is dogs, but that's just what he did.

Local musician/songwriter Tony Presley's musical project is called Real Live Tigers. For Presley, who self-releases and self-books tours, music a labor of love. He's got a show coming up at Nightbird Books on Dickson Street in Fayetteville Saturday night before embarking on a Southeast tour. He stopped by the Firmin-Garner Performance studio recently to play us a few songs and discuss why he plays music with "Ozarks at Large's" Katy Henriksen.

Geoffrey Brock, a professor of creative writing and translation at the University of Arkansas, recently translated Pinocchio for the New York Review of Books. The translation, out since 2009 in an adult edition, has recently been issued as a lavishly illustrated large format children's edition. Last January the U.S. Department of the Interior designated the White River Watershed as a National Blueway, the second river in the nation to be honored. The title recognizes and supports a new generation of watershed stewardship. But Jeannie Burlsworth, who runs the right-wing property rights group, “Secure Arkansas,” claims the Blueway Program is a covert government operation. Burlsworth has roused so much opposition, that the Arkansas Blueway initiative was forced to shut down.
